Crystal Gayle, It’s fair to say that over the years, we’ve seen a whole host of wacky TV – and The Masked Singer is certainly no exception.
Hosted by Nick Cannon, the hit singing competition features a slew of celebrities from the entertainment industry dressed head-to-toe in elaborate costumes that conceal their identity. Throughout the duration of the show, they compete against each other in 2s, with the audience and judging panel voting on who the winner of each duo is.
The winner of the show’s first season was singer T-Pain, who sported a furry, one-eyed monster costume.
The popular show is back for a second season this month, and, with fans eagerly gearing up to watch, last weekend, Fox gave viewers a glimpse at the sixteen celebs competing and their respective costumes that will be hitting screens, as well as countless other sneak peeks and clues into what’s in store.
Keep scrolling to get all the details as we prepare for the second season.
On Sunday, FOX shared a teaser for the upcoming second season of The Masked Singer.
And, since, viewers have been treated to some tantalizing new clues and sneak peeks into what’s in store for the second installment of the singing unconventional competition.
First off, Nick Cannon has assured us that the clues will be more cryptic and the singers will be tougher to identify.
Which, if last season is anything to go by, isn’t good news for the judges as Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger weren’t exactly on the mark with guessing the identities of the celebs last time.
We got a general insight into this season’s lineup with some staggering numbers…
The sixteen contestants combined have 140 films, twenty-two Broadway musicals, twenty-two gold records, twenty platinum records, 6 multi-platinum records, thirty-one Billboard number 1 singles, sixty-nine Emmy nominations, nineteen Emmy wins, forty-two Grammy nominations, 10 Grammy wins, 10 Lifetime Achievement Awards, 3 Walk of Fame Stars, 3 New York Times bestsellers, 2 Time magazine’s Most Influential People, 7 Super Bowl appearances, 5 Hall of Famers, fifteen marriages, and 8 divorces.
Fox referred to himself as a superhero, as well as being seen near signs reading “Studio 46,” with several saying “Crafty.”
This has led many fans to believe that the celeb could be Ray Fisher. Jeremy Renner is also a pretty solid guess, and there’s also plenty of guesses for Bradley Cooper too.
“I live for half of February,” Ice Cream said in front of a calendar with Valentine’s Day circled. There are also shots from a large Hollywood mansion; could that hint to where Ice Cream possibly resides?
There have been countless guesses floating around Twitter, with many racking their brains for who this mystery celeb is. Spoiler alert: people really don’t seem to have a grasp with this one.
Guesses have ranged from Scott Disick to Shane Harper and Freddie Highmore (the latter 2 born on Valentine’s Day).
Amongst various butterfly puns, Butterfly put huge emphasis on the phrase “I just pray I don’t fall over,” presumably in reference to the scale of the costume. A dedicated religious person? Or perhaps someone who’s famous for their faith?
As far as internet speculation is concerned, people are pretty sure that this one is Michelle Williams, of the former girl group, Destiny’s Child, though there are also guesses for Kesha, Chris Colfer, and Taylor Swift.
But, Michelle seems to be the best guess so far as she has enjoyed success as a gospel artist and was engaged to a pastor last year.
Instantly, it was clear that Leopard had a British accent, although we do have to bear in mind that this may be put on. She said she’d been “spotted with the president” and the costume was specifically designed to hide her “natural silhouette.” Does she have a famous silhouette?
Several on the internet disregarded the accent altogether to guess Omarosa, while others went with Monica Lewinsky, Mel B, or even Sharon Osbourne.
Thingamajig stands tall at a staggering 7ft in this costume but, combined with the massive hair and platform shoes, the celeb could still be under 6ft in real life.
When it came to clues, Thingamajig was full of them, saying: “I will tower over the rest of the singer with my puzzling persona,” going on to make a very obvious Star Wars reference: “Don’t call me Chewbacca, though we do celebrate together.”
Probably way too obvious of a guess is Joonas Suotamo, who took over the role from Peter Mayhew. Viewers also guessed Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar Binks, as well as Wayne Brady, who also got a significant amount of guesses.
Finally, we were introduced to Black Widow, whose clues, which consisted of nothing more than puns, were fairly vague.
As you can imagine, many people were guessing Scarlett Johansson. Dionne Warwick and Zendaya were also thrown out there but, for the most part, the internet seems pretty unsure.
There’s also one other masked celeb that is yet to be revealed and will be unveiled closer to the air date… very mysterious.
The Masked Singer Season 2 airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on FOX, from September 25.
